Trooper
charged with sexual misconduct in 2005 DUI stop
King County prosecutors
have charged a Washington State Patrol trooper with a sex crime after he allegedly
stopped a woman on suspicion of drunken driving in June 2005 and touched her sexually.Carlos
Torres, a 44-year-old DuPont resident, was charged Thursday with one count of
first-degree custodial sexual misconduct, a class C felony that is punishable
by six to 12 months in jail. Hes out of custody and will be arraigned on the charge
May 2 at the Regional Justice Center in Kent, said Dan Donohoe, spokesman for
the King County Prosecutors Office.His lawyer, Michael Schwartz, said the trooper
was interviewed several times by the State Patrol as well as the FBI and has always
denied the allegations.According to court documents, three women independently
filed complaints with the Washington State Patrol during mid-June 2005 that accused
Torres of making inappropriate and sexually explicit comments with them after
they were stopped for suspected drunken driving.The State Patrol turned over the
investigation to the FBI.

Trial Held on School Campus Students
at Woodcreek High School in Roseville didn't have to go far to learn some real-life
lessons about the consequences of drinking and driving. On Wednesday, the DUI
trial of a 20-year old Placer County woman was held on the school campus.
The auditorium was filled with seniors, 12 of whom sat on a jury that rendered
an advisory verdict. A sheriff's deputy testified that the accused,
who is not being identified by News10 per the judge's order, was driving drunk
while home from college on Christmas break last December. The deputy said she
ran off the road and hit a house and car. "I asked her several times
to turn off the car which was running but she didn't seem to understand," said
the deputy. "She stepped out of the car and fell down on the ground.

Eve was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence after she crashed
a Maserati in Hollywood. The crash occurred about 2:45 a.m. Thursday on Hollywood
Boulevard, said police Officer Martha Garcia. Eve, whose full name is Eve Jeffers,
was booked on misdemeanor drunken driving and posted $30,000 bail. She is scheduled
to return to court May 17.
Hugh Grant accepted undisclosed damages Friday from a British newspaper publisher
over claims about his relationships with former girlfriends Jemima Khan and Elizabeth
Hurley. The 46-year-old actor sued Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Daily
Mail and Mail on Sunday, over stories published in February. One story alleged
that his relationship with Khan was destroyed by a flirtation with a film executive.
