Running Horse firm files for bankruptcy

The man who five years ago pitched building a country club in southwest Fresno is out of the picture, possibly brightening the outlook for finishing the development but leaving the prospects for a major pro golf tournament in limbo.Running Horse LLC, the company that Tom O'Meara founded to build the country club, filed Friday for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and Manteca-based Elon Golf Construction Inc. took control of the development. That was welcome news to a Fresno lawyer representing seven creditors owed more than $5 million. "This thing has a chance of turning a corner now," said Mike Wilhelm. But the outlook was not as optimistic for the PGA Tour, which has scheduled the Running Horse Golf Championship for Fresno in October."This latest development is a setback, no question," said Bob Combs, the PGA Tour's senior vice president for communications.Combs said Fresno remains an "attractive long-term market" for the PGA Tour, but the Running Horse project's financial issues are causing his group to look at alternatives for the Oct.

Delta exits bankruptcy leaner than when it entered 19½ months ago

April 30, 2007 - ATLANTA (AP) - Delta Air Lines Inc. emerged from bankruptcy protection Monday as an independent carrier after surviving a hostile takeover bid during a 19½-month reorganization that saw it eliminate jobs, cut costs, restructure its fleet and focus more on international flying.

A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge in New York had set 9 a.m. EDT as the time the Atlanta-based airline could exit from Chapter 11 by closing on a $2.5 billion loan that would allow it to pay back lenders who gave Delta money to help it operate while in bankruptcy.

Delta's chief bankruptcy lawyer, Marshall Huebner, said in a 10:21 a.m. e-mail to The Associated Press that the wire transfers for the loan were completed.

Delta, the nation's third-largest carrier, also on Monday released details of a rebranding effort that includes a new paint job for its planes, featuring the company's three-dimensional red logo flying across a blue background.

Couple charged for in-flight friskiness goes on trial today

LAKEWOOD, Calif. A Lakewood couple facing federal charges for allegedly engaging in sexual activity while on an airplane will go to trial today in North Carolina.

Carl Warren Persing and Dawn Elizabeth Sewell are charged with interfering with a flight attendant for their actions on the September flight. Prosecutors say the couple made other passengers uncomfortable.

They were arrested September 15th when they arrived at Raleigh-Durham International Airport on a Southwest Airlines flight from Los Angeles.

Persing's lawyer has said he was sick and drowsy and laid his head on Sewell's lap to rest.
