Matches Made by Lawyer Entrepreneur
For many homeowners a major question is where can I find an electrician? A carpenter? Tiler? Gardener? Debbie Farson has come up with an answer in Home Solutions Connection Inc. A stay-at-home Mount Vernon mom turned entrepreneur, this Georgetown University trained lawyer and member of both the Virginia and District of Columbia bars, successfully practiced law for seven years before having her first child. As the family grew she now has three children and home life developed into her primary focus, Farson became more aware of the difficulties inherent in finding, scheduling and following through with quality home improvement and repair professionals. Believing there must be a better way she began developing a business plan. That was 2001. Today, Farson is the president of a firm that evaluates, screens, and serves as matchmaker between contractors and home owners.
NC lawyer who confronted 2002 school shooter says Gingrich wrong
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- North Carolina lawyer Ted Besen bristles when politicians suggest that armed classmates could have stopped Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho. Five years ago, while a student at the Appalachian School of Law in southwestern Virginia, he tackled and subdued a mentally unstable student named Peter Odighizuwa who had fatally shot the dean, a professor and another student. In the days that followed, many applauded two other students who followed Besen with guns in hand. "Their guns had no effect on Peter," Besen, who's now a lawyer in Wilmington, N.C., said Tuesday. "I already had Peter on the ground before they got out their guns." Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" Sunday that armed students have successfully stopped killers in the classroom.
Chichester supports lawyer for his seat in the Virginia Senate
RICHMOND--A fourth candidate has entered the race for the Republican nomination to replace Sen. John Chichester, and this one has Chichester's blessing--and that of House Speaker Bill Howell. Westmoreland County attorney Richard Stuart, a former commonwealth's attorney, announced yesterday that he will seek the Republican nomination for the 28th state Senate district, which Chichester has held for 29 years. Chichester is retiring at the end of this year. Along with Stuart's announcement came endorsements from Chichester and Howell, both of whom had been staying out of the nomination race up to this point. Stuart joins Iraq War veteran Jonathan Myers and businessmen John Van Hoy and Joe Graziano in the race to win the nomination. Stuart said he thinks he is a stronger candidate against Democrat Albert Pollard Jr., who also is running for the seat, because both Pollard and Stuart are from the Northern Neck.
